Our campaign has officially launched!

Are you ready to letterbox, doorknock and put up a sign? If you said yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Our campaign officially launched on Friday night from the Postmaster Hotel and now we can all put on a teal shirt and start campaigning.

In addition to our launch, it has been another huge week for the campaign. Our first order of corflutes, t-shirts and flyers have arrived, our shop is live on the website and we are also very close to securing an office. It’s on in Kew and with many exciting days ahead, now’s the time to volunteer and get further involved.

A fresh start in Kew

Our campaign could not have had a better start. We launched our campaign on Friday night from the Stamps Room at the Postmaster Hotel to a sell-out crowd of 150 passionate locals. The atmosphere was inspiring and full of hope for a fresh start in Kew.

We were most fortunate to have three wonderful speakers in Rob Baillieu, Oliver Yates and Sophie’s long-time friend LJ Ryan. Our speakers covered the importance of Independent representation, the power of communities coming together and why they were supporting Sophie to be the next member for Kew.

And then we heard our candidate’s first speech. Simply inspiring. Sophie talked about the new era of politics, the importance of faster climate action and the frustrations that we all have with the lack of integrity on Spring Street. The electorate of Kew is extremely lucky to have an accomplished businesswoman, community volunteer and local of 23 years standing as our community Independent.

Thank you to all who attended our launch on Friday, on behalf of everyone at Team Sophie, your support and enthusiasm for this campaign is most appreciated.

If you couldn’t make it on Friday night, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet Sophie at future events, in the office or at street meet and greets.

Teal cupcakes

Yesterday we held our community morning tea at Outer Circle Linear Park in Deepdene.

The morning tea was a great success! We handed out more t-shirts and corflutes, recruited additional letterboxing volunteers and attracted the attention of many passersby. We also enjoyed some delicious teal cupcakes.

Social Media

Can you follow Sophie on social media? We have 300+ people on our mail list but only 100 followers on Instagram and Facebook. Please help expand Sophie’s reach on social media by following her on:

You can also share your own campaign experiences on social media by using the hashtag #Sophie4Kew. Snap a photo of yourself in your teal shirt or a corflute on your fence and share it using #Sophie4Kew to show your support for Team Sophie.

Furnish our office

As mentioned, we are very close to securing an office for the campaign. Once we have the keys, Team Sophie will need your help turning the office into a functional space where volunteers and the campaign team can work effectively.

If you have any furniture (desks, chairs or tables) or if you have any office equipment (computers and printers) that you can loan to us until the end of November, then please email our Operations Manager Huw at [email protected]

Thanks to your support, we have reached our $12,000 goal to fund 4 letterbox drops. Yesterday our volunteers took to the streets with their flyers and now thanks to our donors, everyone across our electorate will soon receive a Sophie Torney for Kew flyer in their letterbox.

We have further expenses coming up though. Signing the lease for our new office will add a significant monthly spend to the campaign budget and we must also keep up our digital advertising.

Digital advertising is a vital element of our campaign strategy, it allows us to reach thousands of people daily and is crucial in building Sophie’s name recognition. Every $100 we can spend on digital advertising in this early stage will have a huge impact on election day!

Can you donate today and help keep our vital ads running?

Our letterboxing team is underway and doorknocking will be starting very soon! You can also sign up to help with distribution, flyer teams, data entry, social media and much more. If you want to send Sophie Torney to Spring St, the most helpful thing you can do is join our volunteer team.

If you haven’t yet attended onboarding, we run sessions on Zoom every Wednesday and Sunday (including tonight) -
register for onboarding here.

Will you join Team Sophie and sign up to volunteer?

Thank you for all your support. I’ll see you on the campaign trail.
